What Is Generic Ultram (Tramadol) Used For?
Generic Ultram(Tramadol) is used to treat:
- Moderate pain
- Severe pain
- Most types of Neuralgia, including Trigeminal Neuralgia.
- Multiple other conditions that result in severe pain to the victim.
- Post operative pain in canines.
- Recently used for chronic depression and/or anxiety.

Active Ingredients: Tramadol Hydrochloride
Inactive Ingredients: corn starch, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, lactose, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, polyethylene glycol, polysorbate 80,sodium starch glycolate, titanium dioxide and wax.
Class and Mechanism:
Generic Ultram(Tramadol) is an effective pain reliever (analgesic). Its mode of action resembles that of narcotics, but it has significantly less potential for abuse and addiction than the narcotics. Generic Ultram(Tramadol) is as effective as narcotics in relieving pain but does not depress respiration, a side effect of most narcotics. Generic Ultram is not a nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drug (NSAID), and does not have the increased risk of stomach ulceration and internal bleeding that can occur with the use of NSAIDs.
Generic Ultram (Tramadol) Storage
Store at room temperature between 15 and 30 degrees C (59 and 86 degrees F). Throw away any unused medicine after the expiration date.
How to take Generic Ultram (Tramadol)?
Take this medicine by mouth with a glass of water. You may take with food, but always take the medicine either with food or without food. Do not break, crush, or chew the medicine. Do not take a tablet that is not whole. A broken or crushed tablet can be very dangerous. You may get too much medicine. Follow the directions on the prescription label. Take the medicine at the same time each day. Do not take more medicine than you are told to take.
!!! Patients over 65 years old may have a stronger reaction and need a smaller dose.
If OVERDOSE
Serious potential consequences of overdosage with Generic Ultram(Tramadol) tablets are central nervous system depression, respiratory depression and death. In treating an overdose, primary attention should be given to maintaining adequate ventilation along with general supportive treatment
While naloxone will reverse some, but not all, symptoms caused by overdosage with Generic Ultram, the risk of seizures is also increased with naloxone administration.
Hemodialysis is not expected to be helpful in an overdose because it removes less than 7% of the administered dose in a 4-hour dialysis period.
What to do if I miss a dose?
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you can. If it is almost time for your next dose, take only that dose.
!!! Do not take double or extra doses.
Who should not take Generic Ultram (Tramadol)?
Generic Ultram should not be administered to patients who have previously demonstrated hypersensitivity to tramadol or in cases of acute intoxication with alcohol, hypnotics, centrally acting analgesics, opioids or psychotropic drugs.
What side effects may occur?
Generic Ultram(Tramadol) is generally well tolerated and side effects are usually transient. Commonly reported side effects include:
- nausea
- constipation
- dizziness
- headache
- drowsiness
- vomiting
Less commonly reported side effects include itching, sweating, dry mouth, diarrhea, rash, visual disturbances, and vertigo.
Generic Ultram (Tramadol) Drug Interactions
Generic Ultram(Tramadol) can impair thinking and the physical abilities required for driving or operating machinery. Generic Ultram(Tramadol) should be avoided in patients intoxicated with alcohol, hypnotics, and narcotics. Large doses of Generic Ultram administered with alcohol or anesthetic agents can impair breathing. Generic Ultram can increase the risk of seizure in epileptic patients, especially with simultaneous use of tricyclic antidepressants, such as Elavil. The safety of Generic Ultram in children has not been established. It may rarely be habit forming. Generic Ultram should be avoided in patients with a history of opiate addiction or hypersensitivity to opiate medications.
