Active ingredient: lansoprazole
Other Ingredients: confectioner’s sugar, mannitol, docusate sodium, ferric oxide, colloidal silicon dioxide, xanthan gum, crospovidone, citric acid, sodium citrate, magnesium stearate, and artificial strawberry flavor.
Class and mechanism: Generic Prevacid (Lansoprazole) is in a class of drugs called proton pump inhibitors (PPI), which block the production of acid by the stomach. Proton pump inhibitors are used for the treatment of conditions such as ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome that are caused by stomach acid. Generic Prevacid (Lansoprazole), like other proton-pump inhibitors, blocks the enzyme in the wall of the stomach that produces acid. By blocking the enzyme, the production of acid is decreased, and this allows the stomach and esophagus to heal.

Store Generic Prevacid (Lansoprazole) away from heat and direct light.
Do not store Generic Prevacid (Lansoprazole) in the bathroom, near the kitchen sink, or in other damp places. Heat or moisture may cause Generic Prevacid (Lansoprazole)) to break down.

Take this medication exactly as it was prescribed for you. Do not take the medication in larger amounts, or take it for longer than recommended by your doctor. Follow the directions on your prescription label.
Generic Prevacid (Lansoprazole) should be taken before meals. If you're using the regular delayed-release capsules and you're having trouble swallowing them, you can sprinkle the contents on a tablespoon of applesauce; swallow immediately without chewing or crushing the granules. You can also mix the granules with 2 ounces of orange juice or tomato juice.
To take Generic Prevacid (Lansoprazole) orally disintegrating tablet: Use dry hands to remove the tablet and place it in your mouth. It will begin to dissolve right away. Allow the tablet to dissolve in your mouth without chewing, swallowing several times as it dissolves.

Take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the one you missed and go back to your regular schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.
OVERDOSE of Generic Prevacid (Lansoprazole) are not known to cause any problems. Nevertheless, no medication should be taken in excess. If you suspect an overdose, seek medical attention immediately. An overdose of Generic Prevacid (Lansoprazole) is not expected to produce life-threatening symptoms.

Generic Prevacid (Lansoprazole) is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to any component of the formulation of Generic Prevacid (Lansoprazole). • Rash or hives
• Itching
• Difficulty breathing or swallowing

• Iron salts (Ferro-Sequels, Ferro-Sulfate)
• Ketoconazole (Nizoral)
• Sucralfate (Carafate)
• Theophylline (Theo-Dur)
• Warfarin (Coumadin)

If you are using any of these drugs, you may not be able to use Generic Prevacid (Lansoprazole), or you may need dosage adjustments or special tests during treatment.
There may be other drugs not listed that can affect Generic Prevacid (Lansoprazole). Tell your doctor about all the prescription and over-the-counter medications you use. This includes vitamins, minerals, herbal products, and drugs prescribed by other doctors. Do not start using a new medication without telling your doctor.

Before taking this medication, tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs, or if you have any type of liver disease. You may not be able to use Generic Prevacid (Lansoprazole), or you may need a dosage adjustment or special tests during treatment.
To relieve your symptoms and to heal your ulcer, you need to take Generic Prevacid (Lansoprazole) for the full time of treatment your doctor prescribes. Keep taking the drug even if you begin to feel better, and be sure to keep your appointments with your doctor.
