Active Ingredients: Carvedilol
Inactive Ingredients: colloidal silicon dioxide, crospovidone, ypromellose, lactose, magnesium stearate, polyethylene glycol, olysorbate 80, povidone, sucrose, and titanium dioxide.
Generic Coreg (Carvedilol) is a white, oval, film-coated tablet containing .125 mg, 6.25 mg, 12.5 mg, or 25 mg of carvedilol.
Class and Mechanism:
Generic Coreg (Carvedilol) is used for treating high blood pressure and congestive heart failure. It is related to labetalol (Normodyne, Trandate). Generic Coreg (Carvedilol) blocks receptors of the adrenergic nervous system, the system of nerves in which epinephrine (adrenalin) is active. Nerves from the adrenergic system enter the heart and release an adrenergic chemical (norepinephrine) that attaches to receptors on the heart's muscle and stimulates the muscle to beat more rapidly and forcefully. By blocking the receptors, Generic Coreg (Carvedilol) reduces the heart's rate and force of contraction and thereby reduces the work of the heart. Generic Coreg (Carvedilol) also blocks adrenergic receptors on arteries and causes the arteries to relax and the blood pressure to fall. The drop in blood pressure further reduces the work of the heart since it is easier to pump blood against a lower pressure.

Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of reach of children. Store it at room temperature and away from excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom). Throw away any dication that is outdated or no longer needed.
How to take Generic Coreg (Carvedilol)?
Take Generic Coreg (Carvedilol) exactly as it was prescribed for you. Do not take the medication in larger amounts or for longer than recommended by your doctor. Take this medication with a full glass of water. Take Generic Coreg (Carvedilol) at the same time every day. Do not skip doses or stop taking Generic Coreg (Carvedilol) without first talking to your doctor. Stopping suddenly may make your condition worse. To be sure this medication is helping your condition, your blood pressure will need to be checked on a regular basis. It is important that you not miss any scheduled visits to your doctor.

What to do if I miss a dose?
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If your next dose is less than 4 hours away, skip the the missed dose and take the medicine at the next regularly scheduled time. Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
Who should not take Generic Coreg (Carvedilol)?
Generic Coreg (Carvedilol) is contraindicated in patients with bronchial asthma or related bronchospastic conditions, second- or third-degree AV block, sick sinus syndrome or severe bradycardia (unless a permanent pacemaker is in place), or in patients with cardiogenic shock or who have decompensated heart failure requiring the use of intravenous inotropic therapy. Such patients should first be weaned from intravenous therapy before initiating Generic Coreg (Carvedilol).
Use of Generic Coreg (Carvedilol) in patients with clinically manifest hepatic impairment is not recommended.
Generic Coreg (Carvedilol) is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to any component of the product.
What side effects may occur?
Some common side effects associated with Generic Coreg (Carvedilol) include shortness of breath, a slow heartbeat, weight gain, fatigue, hypotension, dizziness or faintness. People taking Generic Coreg (Carvedilol) who have any of these symptoms should call their doctor. Additionally, if patients experience fatigue or dizziness, they should sit or lie down and avoid driving or hazardous tasks. Beta-blockers may mask the symptoms of low blood sugar or alter blood sugar levels. People with diabetes should report any changes in blood sugar levels to their physician. Contact lens wearers may produce fewer tears or have dry eyes. As with any medicine, patients taking COREG should also first tell their doctor what other medications they are taking.
